David is our second designer to let us into their home. Here is what he has to say about his favorite things:
"I was raised with pets and love to have animals around me. I do have to be careful, though – I’ve seen those shows about pet hoarders…
I have a pair of these Thayer Coggin barrel-backed club chairs. Thayer Coggin started business in the hay-day of mid-century design, producing many iconic pieces of furniture. Their classic styles are not only good looking, but super comfortable. Over the years, they have kept their mid-century aesthetic while tweaking dimensions to make them even more cozy and “modern.”
The chair in this picture is another classic from Thayer Coggin. I am NOT afraid of color and pattern!
I am an avid art collector. Over the years, I’ve collected many small paintings (budget, budget!) that I’ve grouped in creative ways to make a statement. I’m especially fond of local art, though I will buy a painting on vacation to remind me of a great trip.
I love tchotchkes – anything that catches my eye or has sentimental value. As for books and music – I’ve got to do something while I’m trapped in my comfortable chairs covered with dogs and cats!"
What is your style?
"Personally, I like retro/ mid-century modern. As a designer, it is my job to work in whatever style the client prefers."
What is your favorite space at home?
Probably my living room – the one in the picture with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. It has lots of comfortable seating, a fireplace and lots of natural light. It also seems to be comfy at any time of year. The pattern and color choices are soothing to me.
What is your favorite color?
Orange. It’s a happy color – who doesn’t need THAT! Actually, even though orange may seem like an aggressive choice, any color can become a neutral through repetition. It’s all about combination and intensity.
